Do I Need a Rocking Chair and Stuff We've Already Bought

We've already bought some things for Baby B.

Jason found a sale on Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags a couple years ago and bought a few (typical Jason:) I think these are the designs and fabric choices he got but it's been awhile since I last saw them.

Then we found this amazing jumper thingy...SO cute!
And my wonderful in-laws just bought us our stroller!
We've bought a few more small things. Like this Chicago Flag onesie in black.
And some little chew toys.

Jason is, of course, loving this part of adding to our family :)

Still making up our minds on larger purchases. I'm feeling a bit lost in the sea of baby cribs, bedding, breast pumps and so much more. This stuff is trivial I'm sure but I just want it to be perfect(typical me). Here's a question I keep finding myself asking, "do I need a rocking chair"? What are your thoughts?

IMO, no. I had one. It was uncomfortable to try and breast feed in it, so I ended up sitting on the couch. I did, however, use a footstool a bunch. Everyone will have their own personal preference, but that is mine! Hope it helps, and good luck!

So on the other hand... We have a rocker/recliner and a footstool in our nursery and absolutely love them to pieces! Actually, my mom tried to do without this when she had her first child, and when my sister was 4 days old, she made Dad go buy one! I took her advice while pregnant with our first and got a really cozy/comfy one and am glad I did - it was the perfect spot for nursing. It (and the crib) actually made it onto the shipping container when we moved to the UK, I couldn't bear to leave it behind, even though we didn't have a lot of space in London. #2 Jack is now 9.5 months old and I still nurse him there 75-80% of the time.

One piece of advice, if you're getting one new, BOTH of the parents-to-be should sit in it to make sure it fits you both well. Maybe Dad will bottle feed or maybe just use it for storytime and or middle of the night comforting, but no matter what, it should be a place that both of you enjoy!

Have fun getting ready! What an exciting time! :)

I didn't have it with Lyric and wished I had. My reasons were I would have liked to do middle of the night feedings in the quiet of her room. Instead I had to either bring her back into bed with us or go sit on the couch. Lots of jostling and waking everyone up more.
I had one with Shi and loved it.
Though I've known MANY a mom who spent the $300 on one and never used it. So I guess to each his own.

And may I add that I'm SOOOOO jealous of your amazing stroller! Wowza! and I've always wanted a Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag and never had one. I'm TOTALLY having baby gear envy right now!

I'm getting so excited about this little wee one!! LOVE YOU!

P.S. I love how you just called teething toys, chew toys. :-)

In my opinion it's hard to raise a baby without a rocking chair. I love it! But make sure the arms are low enough that you can nurse in it. High-armed chairs are no good for nursing.

I was going to say the same thing Des said about the "chew" toy! So funny!

I'm so excited about all your stuff!

Considering your space - I would go with only one chair. Whatever chair that may be - just one. If the one you have picked out won't ever be sat in, then I would drop it from the list.... (but I love it.) :)~

Ummm....I absolutely LOVE everything item in this blog. So jealous of those amazing diaper bags. I have sort of an obsession with diaper bags. Those are spectacular! I would definitely go with a rocking chair & footstool. And like mom said, make sure the arms are low enough for nursing. I can't wait to see this little baby B. Buying things always makes it feel so much more real and get's your excitement level up. :) Love you lots!

Depends on the baby. With our son, I LIVED in our rocker/recliner chair with foot stool for 2 years. He loved to be held and rocked. I gave away the chair after our daughter. She wouldn't let us hold her, much less rock her. I vote to get one.

No I don't think you need a rocking chair just a comfy chair you like and may work in their room for years to come. If you want advice on pumps and things let me know. xo

My mom had a very comfortable cushioned rocking chair/recliner and used it all the time for all 4 kids when she nursed and loved it...and I even used it when I'd feed them the bottle... The rocking helped put the babies to sleep and if you use a footstool too its less work to actually make the rocking motion....and unless you're getting a puppy too, I'm not sure you're supposed to call them "chew toys" :)
Love you!!!

Love the gliders and it's really nice to have padded arms on the chair. Plus, nice to have it tall enough in the back so you can rest your head and even, once in a while, close your eyes and snooze a bit.
