Feeling Scared....Is This Normal?

I have felt a little down this week.
Living with chronic pain for the past 6 months is finally getting to me. My right leg has had waves of pain everyday for literally 6 months or more. It SUCKS! I've tried to take it in stride and keep perspective on how blessed I've been this pregnancy to have nothing major happen and mostly I've done pretty well. This week, however, I'm just so over being in pain daily! I'm exhausted from waking up from the pain throughout the night and want relief! I'm just really missing this carefree girl.

I'm also revisiting the nervousness about birth and raising a child that I felt the week I found out I was pregnant. The closer we get to the actual birth I keep thinking, "what the heck are we doing? We don't know nothin' about birthin' or raising no babies".

Of course I know what scripture says about fear, anxiety and the blessing that children are....I just need those truths to sink down deep into my soul this week cause I'm just scared :) This is normal...right?

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6,7

Hi Mabrie -
You may remember having met me at Jon Vandeput's birthday/going away party. I've been following your blog here and there, especially curious about your journey with pregnancy since I've become a doula, childbirth educator and Birth/Midwife's Assistant.

Today, I read this blog with identification and sympathy. Baby number two is on the way, and even with having experienced birth and being a mother already, it's still scary to be looking it in the face again. However, you will find the grace from God to do this and do it well. Just remember that our fears of labor and motherhood can have a profoundly negative affect on how our labor progresses, so I encourage you to continue to process through it and release your fears before the onset of labor. During my first pregnancy, I would say to myself over and over again, even during labor, "My body is created to do this, I have nothing to fear." Every time I felt fear creep in, I would confess positives words over my heart and body. Even during labor, I used that phrase, I found it to be very helpful for me to kick fear in the pants.

I would also encourage you to seek out a chiropractor and get a few adjustments before your labor starts. I believe that you could gain some real relief from the pain that you're experiencing. A good adjustment can also help you have an easier labor, too. And we all know we want that!

All the best to you!
joy.
